Twentyeleven (2011), is a widgetized child theme of twentyten. It has 4 new widget areas. Two in the header, one billboard and one at the page bottom.

I am going to release widgetized child versions of the most common themes. This is the first one of the set. This great theme can be used as a base for many site templates. It is accessible, well-coded and easy to modify. I added 4 new widget areas to the default widget-area set. Those are:

• Over the Header
• Below the Header
• Billboard
• & Page bottom

Over the header widget area can be used for notifications, wide adsense ads or navigation widgets. Widgets you add in this area will be same width as the header.

Below the header widget area is best used for dropdown menu navigations. You can also put notification/warning text in this area.

Billboard is the perfect area for large and catchy full-width banners & slideshows. You can use my image banner widget to put a full width image in this widget area.

Page bottom is located just over the footer columns. You can add advertisements or any custom text in this area.

Additional to the widget areas, I enabled shortcodes on widget areas by default. So you can use any shortcode in the text widget. I also enlarged sidebar width to 300pixels (optimized for 300×250 Google Ads).
